FAT Closing & Community Circle w/ Mass Movement: An Overture by Body Home Fat Dance

  • The Fishbowl 323 2nd Avenue West Seattle, WA, 98119 United States (map)

Join us for the final evening of the FAT show. Hear reflections from featured artists, connect in community, and join a group discussion on fatness, liberation, and the way forward.

Whether you’ve come to every event or this is your first, this is a beautiful opportunity to be present with the fullness of this show and this moment.

The evening will also feature Mass Movement: An Overture, a live performance by Body Home Fat Dance, a fat performance group based in Portland (PDX).

This dynamic dance installation invites the audience to intimately witness an embodied collective of fat bodies. Fat dancers move through space with trust in each other and a score as their guide, exploring the unique possibilities of their bodies—not despite fatness, but precisely because of it. Through manipulation of shape, contact and pressure, shared weight, momentum, and balance, layered movements and unexpected moments unfold. You will see the ripples in our skin, the jiggle and momentum of our fat, and the intimacy of bellies pressed together, enveloping, yielding. It is an honest and vulnerable experience shared between dancer and audience—a risk we take together. Additional props, light, and sound contribute to the complexity of the piece, with a custom sound score by Mickey Pollizatto developed in collaboration with the dancers during the rehearsal process.

Made possible by funding from the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods, this event is open and free to all.

ACCESSIBILITY: Our space is ADA accessible, with a ramp located to the right of the staircase leading down to the venue. We offer a range of seating options, including chairs that are more comfortable for fat folks. We ask that guests be mindful of the privilege their body may hold when it comes to accessing public seating. If you are in an abled and smaller body, please use the smaller white event chairs to help ensure inclusive and accessible seating for everyone.
